Holiday Decor For Less

Holiday Decor For Less

The holiday season is here. Decorating magazines and storefronts are filled with beautiful wreaths, themed pillows and festive decorations, but this can be expensive. Decking the halls doesn’t have to cost a fortune.

Add some freshness to your home this season with these inexpensive ideas.
DIY Ornament Wreath

Find some inexpensive ornaments and use your hot glue gun to attach them to wreath shape foam you can find at your local dollar store.

Fresh Greenery

Extra cuttings from the tree or even an evergreen in your yard adds charm to your front door, table or mantle. Tuck them into a basket with twigs and ornaments for a festive look almost anywhere in your home.

Real or fake, candles create ambiance throughout the home. Use silver or white candlesticks and holders to contrast with fresh greens for a modern look. If you’d like a pop of color, try festive ribbon from your local craft store that matches your holiday decor or home.

Candy Canes

Fill jars or glassware with multi-colored candy canes and leave on coffee tables and dressers. They also make a nice presentation, if you have an entry table in your home to welcome guests during the holiday season.

Wrap Your Gifts Early

Nestle wrapped presents under the tree or in piles in corners. Use festive, colorful paper to add to the charm of the room. If you have a big entry way, grab 3 different size boxes from a local retail store, wrapping and stacking each one. It makes an amazing display when guests enter your front door.

Holiday Pillows

Discount stores offer inexpensive holiday pillows to throw on sofas, beds, and chairs. If you are like me and you only have so much room to store holiday items for 11’ish months of the year, head on over to Amazon and search for holiday pillow covers. They are very inexpensive and come in many sizes. I just zip them over my existing pillows for the holiday season. It is much easier to store small pillow covers than a lot of 16″ x 16″ or 18″ x 18″ holiday pillows.

Fairy Lights

Adding battery powered light strands to wreaths, tucked in greens and trimmings and clear bowls filled with ornaments can add a sparkle to any room. Check your local craft store like Hobby Lobby or Michaels or again your local Dollar store may have these during the holiday season – be sure to shop early before they sell out.

These are just a few tips for decorating your home this year for less money and I hope you have fun doing it. Be sure to follow me on Pinterest for lots of great ideas for your home and more!
